GPT-6 Astra is out. What it means for your website AI agents, ChatGPT Sites and a Google that answers itself

TL;DR

OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on 3 September 2026. The model uses a computer on its own: it opens websites, compares offers and fills in contact forms. Your website has a new visitor — the AI agent. The same ChatGPT now builds websites too. And Google’s “People also ask” box now answers itself almost every time. Below: three changes and six things to do this week.

What GPT-6 Astra is — in three sentences

GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI’s new model, released on 3 September 2026. The big change is not smarter text but hands: the model looks at the screen, clicks, fills in forms and checks its own result. OpenAI president Greg Brockman called it the start of “the AGI era”.

The numbers that matter to a business owner:

  • On the computer-use benchmark OSWorld 2.0, Astra scores 72.6 %. The previous model, GPT-5.6 Sol, scored 65.7 %. A task now takes 47 % less time (OpenAI, 2026). In plain terms: it completes two out of three computer tasks correctly.
  • Browsing and acting on the web is 1.9× faster than before (Mind2Web benchmark). In practice: an agent moves through ten websites in seconds.
  • Rolling out gradually to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise. The release started on 3 September with a limited group. If your account does not have it yet, it is a matter of days.
  • It holds a million tokens at once. That is roughly 700,000 words — a whole website with every subpage fits into one request.

The new model itself is not your problem. Your problem is what people and companies will do with it. Three things change right away.

Change 1. Your website has a new visitor: the AI agent

An AI agent is software that does on a website what a person does: reads, compares and fills in the form. The difference is that it does not look at the design. It looks for facts. If it cannot find them, it moves on to the next company.

OpenAI showed this scene at the launch. A user asks for a paediatrician who accepts new patients. Astra opens Google Maps, picks the clinics, visits their websites and fills in the contact forms itself. The person collects the replies later.

Now swap the paediatrician for your business. A construction firm. An accountant. A tyre shop. The customer no longer browses five websites. They say one sentence and the agent chooses for them. Your website’s content decides who makes the shortlist.

What the agent looks for on your site, and where it usually gets stuck:

  • Prices or a price range. “Request a quote” is a dead end for an agent. The competitor who writes “from €90” is already ahead in the comparison.
  • A list of services as text. Text inside an image does not exist for the agent. “Moving services across Estonia” written on a pretty banner is invisible.
  • Contact details and opening hours. Visible, not only in the footer. Structured data (schema.org) helps — it is a label made for machines.
  • A working contact form. Without a CAPTCHA trap that stops the agent, and with a clear “sent” confirmation.
  • An open door. If robots.txt blocks AI crawlers, no agent can reach you. Check what was written there back in 2023.

This is not the future. Google is testing its own shopping agents at the same time, and Merchant Center got three new AI metrics in September (relevant if you sell online). The new job of a website is to be readable by people and machines alike. That is how we approach website development today: facts as text, prices on the page, data in schema.

Change 2. ChatGPT now builds websites itself

ChatGPT Sites turns a description into a working website and publishes it right away. In the EU it has been available on Plus and Pro plans since 20 July 2026. GPT-6 Astra added a new layer: the model builds the page, tests it itself and fixes the bugs.

What it looks like in practice:

  • You type: “Build a website for my accounting firm, three services, prices, a contact form.”
  • A couple of minutes later the site is live at yourname.openai.chatgpt.site.
  • Your own domain can be connected through DNS.
  • Forms, sign-in and payments through a third-party processor are all there.

It sounds like the end of web agencies. It is not. But it is a genuinely good tool for three things: a prototype before the real order, a quick landing page for one campaign test, and an internal tool nobody outside will see.

Where ChatGPT Sites falls short as a company’s main website:

  • The site lives in an OpenAI account. Lose access — lose the site. When the address changes, the system returns a “temporary” redirect (307). In practice: move to your own domain and your Google rankings start from zero.
  • SEO is on you. There are no built-in analytics or search tools. The site exists, but nobody finds it.
  • Data protection. Health data and card data must not be processed there. For now you cannot require that the data stays in the EU.
  • Three languages, brand, speed, maintenance. All of that stays on your shoulders. And that is exactly what brings customers.

We wrote the longer comparison between AI builders and an agency in August: AI website builder vs agency. The short answer from it: AI makes the draft, a person makes the result.

Change 3. Google answers itself — and now measures it

Almost 100 % of Google’s “People also ask” boxes now show AI Overviews text. Fourteen months ago it was 12 % (Search Engine Roundtable, 9 September 2026). The customer gets the answer on the results page and clicks less often.

The same week brought a second piece of news. The generative-AI report in Search Console reached every country. It shows whether Google’s AI answers use your pages at all: impressions, pages, countries, devices. No clicks and no queries. But for the first time, AI visibility can be measured.

And traffic is moving. ChatGPT.com had about 1.09 billion US visits a month in August, up 48 % year on year. Bing’s traffic halved over the same period (Local Dominator, 6 September 2026). Estonian numbers are smaller; the direction is the same.

What it means: the website has to give an answer AI can quote. The first paragraph answers the question. Facts come as numbers. The author and the company are identifiable. The full checklist is in our guide to generative engine optimisation, and as systematic work we do it as part of our SEO services.

What to do this week — six steps

None of these needs a new website. About two hours of work in total.

  1. Ask ChatGPT about your company. “What does [company] do in Tallinn and what does it cost?” A wrong answer shows where the website is silent.
  2. Open robots.txt. If there is a “Disallow” for GPTBot or Google-Extended, decide deliberately whether you want to be out of AI answers.
  3. Put prices or a price range on the page. As text, not in a PDF or an image. “From” is better than nothing.
  4. Test the contact form. Fill it in yourself. Did a confirmation appear? Did the message arrive? The agent judges the same way.
  5. Add or check schema.org data. Company name, address, phone, opening hours, services. It is a machine-readable business card.
  6. Look at the AI report in Search Console. If your pages are not there, that is the starting point, not the end.

If you would rather have someone go through this for you: send us the website address and we will check these six points. Honestly, without a sales pitch.

FAQ

What is GPT-6 Astra?

GPT-6 Astra is the new OpenAI model released on 3 September 2026. The headline change is computer use: the model opens pages, fills in forms and updates records on its own. It is rolling out gradually to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans and to the API.

Can ChatGPT build a website?

Yes. ChatGPT Sites turns a description into a working page and hosts it at name.openai.chatgpt.site. In the EU it has been available on Plus and Pro plans since 20 July 2026. It is good for a prototype, a landing-page test or an internal tool. As the main website of a company it is a fast draft, not the final result.

What does an AI agent mean for my website?

An AI agent is software that visits a page instead of a person: it reads, compares and fills in the form. If prices, contact details and services are written clearly on the page, the agent finds them and recommends you. If the information sits inside an image or behind a pop-up, you drop out of the comparison.

Will GPT-6 replace web agencies?

No, but it changes the division of labour. Drafts, copy and prototypes now take minutes with AI. The agency’s work is what AI does not do: taking responsibility for the brand, structure, SEO, speed, data protection and maintenance. The businesses that win use both.

Is GPT-6 Astra available in Estonia?

Yes. OpenAI started the rollout on 3 September 2026 with a limited set of organisations and is extending it to all paid plans over the following days. On Enterprise workspaces Astra is off by default — an administrator has to switch it on.

How do I check whether AI can read my website at all?

Three quick steps. Ask ChatGPT about your company and check whether the answer is right. Open the new generative-AI report in Search Console — it shows whether Google’s AI answers use your pages at all. And check robots.txt: if AI crawlers are blocked, no agent can reach you.

Can an AI agent read your website?

Send the address — we go through the six points and tell you honestly what is fine and what drops you out of the comparison. No obligation.
