Tatalus.ee

A bakery whose display case had outgrown the counter. We built Tatalus an e-shop where fresh cakes, pastries and confectionery look just as tempting on screen as behind the glass — and reaching an order takes only a couple of clicks.

Overview

A bakery that moved online.

A bakery whose first impression now begins on screen.

Tatalus is an Estonian bakery with a wide range of quality baked goods and confectionery — from cakes and pastries to kringles, štritsels and yeast-dough products. They wanted an e-shop where the whole display case would be available online too: a clear catalogue, appetising product photography and smooth ordering. We built a platform on PrestaShop that presents the products with dignity and makes ordering as easy as standing at the counter.

Challenge

Selling taste through a screen.

How do you make a screen make you hungry?

Selling food online starts with appetite. Every product had to look as fresh and inviting on screen as it does in the case — without letting the catalogue turn chaotic. The second task was order: dozens of baked goods had to be grouped into logical categories so a customer could find what they wanted fast. And all of it had to work flawlessly on desktop, tablet and phone — back in 2014, when being mobile-friendly was still an edge rather than the norm.

Approach

From recipe to launch.

  1. Research

Analysing the range and the customer journey — what makes someone order a bake online

  2. Design

A warm, appetising look where product photography tells the story of taste

  3. Development

A PrestaShop e-shop, catalogue, cart and mobile view

  4. Launch

Testing, performance and quality control before going live

A small, tight team — a designer and a developer — carried the project from research to launch. The focus was one question: how do you make a screen create appetite and make ordering easy.
